One of the most difficult things for me and many of my clients to accept is the feeling of “not knowing” because that means having to live with uncertainty. Since we can’t necessarily predict the future, this feeling of uncertainty can lead to emotional imbalance. Suppose I am committed to picking people up at the airport and bad weather is predicted. Will I have to drive through a storm, will they arrive safely and on time, will the event work out at all? (If someone were dependent on receiving payment for the ride and if there was another job possibility that could add to the angst.)
Other times, the feeling is less connected to a real event, more like being in a void and not knowing what to do next. The question that comes up is, “what is my short and long-term purpose?”
With an unpredictable future, we are then put to the task of being ok with the ‘NOW’ i.e. Eckhardt Tolle’s buzzword,’ loving what is,’ Byron Katie’s adage, ‘aligning with our own Being,’ as Ester Hicks reports and ‘living at one with the wholeness of life” as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi teaches. Once we are comfortable with being present for ourselves, we can then make changes to our reaction of being uncertain of what is to come. It’s really inspiring and often energizing to “know” this truth of being able to stay present and balanced, not just with the intellect, but with one’s whole being so that we can be free of the energy and feelings that hold us back.
The Empowerment Process has been a big help for people feeling the pressure of not knowing. A visualization at the end of a recent Empowerment Process, to integrate the final empowering statement of “I relax in wholeness,” was described like this.
Floating on the waves of the ocean, listening to the heartbeat of the earth and connecting my physical heart to the rhythm, I float on my back, comfortably riding the gentle, soothing waves. The sun warms my physical being, the ocean’s population going on without much of my attention around and beneath me. When a threat of a shark, a storm, or a boat comes my way, I am easily able to dissolve and become one with the ocean, enjoying my own Being as part of the whole. I become the ocean. And, when things settle down, I can come back to the enjoyment of riding the waves as a point value in the creation of physical life.
Let’s move closer to the freedom of enjoying the void as we shift our energy to accept the present reality. The present is all that we need to put our attention on, and future goals will manifest as they are meant to with our expanded inner guidance.
